Devon (Dewwʼn), engl. Grafschaft am Kanale mit 580000 E. auf 122 QM.; sie ist gebirgig, hat Bergbau auf Silber, Kupfer, Zinn, Eisen, Blei, Granit, Kalk und Schiefer, liefert Wollentuch und Spitzen, Eisenwaaren, hat Schiffsbau und Fischerei. Von dem Gebirge D.s nennt die neuere Geognosie die Formation des alten rothen Sandsteins Devonʼsches System.
