Antiochus, der Name von 12 oder 13 syrisch-griechischen Königen; unter ihnen: Antiochus I. 282–262 vor Chr., Soter (Retter) wegen eines Sieges über die Galater genannt. A. II., Theos (Gott), 262–246 vor Chr., kriegte ohne Vortheil mit Aegypten; A. III. der Gr., 220–187 vor Chr., verlor an die Römer die Hälfte seines Reiches und wurde in Etymäis von dem Volke getödtet, als er einen Jupiterstempel plündern wollte; A. IV., Epiphanes (der Glorreiche) 175–164 vor Chr. verlor durch die Makkabäer Judäa. A. VII. (Sidetes, aus Sida) 139–131 v. Chr. friedliebend, anerkannte die Unabhängigkeit Judäas. A. XIII. erhielt von den Römern die kleine Provinz Kommagene, wurde von Pompejus im Triumphe aufgeführt, später nach einem Processe wegen eines Gesandtenmords hingerichtet.
