Martène (–dähn), Edmond, einer der gelehrtesten und fleißigsten Schriftsteller der Maurinercongregation, geb. 1654 zu Saint Jean de Losne bei Dijon, aus einer angesehenen Familie, trat 1672 in den Benedictinerorden, st. 1739 zu Paris, nachdem er viele Jahre auf gelehrten Reisen zugebracht u. z.B. über 2000 Documente für eine neue Ausgabe der Gallia christiana u. den Inhalt des würdig neben dʼAcherys Spicilegium stehenden Thesaurus novus anecdotorum (Par. 1717, 5 Fol.) auf einer einzigen Reise gesammelt hatte. Hauptwerke: ein berühmter Commentarius literalis, moralis et historicus zur Regel des Benedictinerordens; De antiquis monachorum ritibus libri V; Veterum scriptorum et monumentorum moralium, historicorum et dogmaticorum collectio nova, Rotomagi 1700, welcher später eine Amplissima collectio (Par. 1724–33, 9 Fol.) folgte u.s.f. Französisch verfaßte M. eine Geschichte der Maurinercongregation, die bis 1739 reichte, später fortgesetzt aber nicht gedruckt wurde.
