Martineau (–no), Harriet, geb. 1802 zu Norwich, wurde früh taub, lieferte mehre Reisebeschreibungen u. versuchte es die Grundsätze der Nationalökonomie in Erzählungen darzustellen. Ihr Bruder James, unitarischer Geistlicher zu Liverpool, gab »Streben nach einem christlichen Leben« und »Kritische Miscellanien« heraus.
