Nearchus aus Amphipolis, Admiral Alexanders d. Gr., führte die auf dem Indus gebaute Flotte in den Ocean u. befuhr die unbekannte Küste von den Mündungen des Indus bis zu der des Euphrat. in den er einfuhr. Die Bruchstücke seines »Periplus« gab zuletzt Geier in den »Alexandri historiarum scriptores aetate suppares« Leipzig 1844 heraus.
