Are (frz. ar), die Einheit des franz. Flächenmaßes, ein Quadrat von 10 Metres Länge, also 100 Quadrat Metres groß. Das gewöhnliche Flächenmaß, die Hektare, ist gleich 100 Aren, die Dekare 10 Aren, die Are 100 Centiaren.
