Portland Vase

Portland Vase, prächtige antike Vase, ein Glasfluß, blau mit weißen Reliefs, im Hause Barberini zu Rom um 1630 in einem Grabgewölbe aufgefunden, kam zuerst durch Kauf an William Hamilton, dann an den Herzog von Portland, zuletzt in das brit. Museum; 1815 wurde sie von W. Lloyd, einem modernen Herostrat, von dem Postamente gestürzt und zerbrochen, aber von geschickter Hand wieder so gut zusammengekittet, daß man die Verletzungen fast nicht bemerkt.
