Potter, Paul, der berühmteste holl. Thiermaler, geb. 1625 zu Enkhuysen, ließ sich im Haag nieder, wo er besonders viel für den Prinzen von Oranien malte; st. 1654 zu Amsterdam. Seine Bilder sind die Zierden aller größeren Galerien und werden sehr theuer bezahlt; am berühmtesten wurde seine pissende Kuh, die Kaiser Alexander in Paris für 6000 Thlr. kaufte.
