Assemani, unirte Maronitenfamilie ans dem Libanon stammend, ausgezeichnet durch Gelehrsamkeit. – Jos. Simon A., 1687 in Syrien geboren und im Maronitencollegium zu Rom gebildet, sammelte im Auftrage des Papstes oriental. Handschriften, Münzen u. dergl. und wurde Custos der vaticanischen Bibliothek; st. 1768 in Rom. Von ihm sind die ausgezeichneten Werke: Bibliotheca orientalis ClementinoVaticana; Romae 1719. 1728. – Die syrisch-latein. und griech.-latein. Ausgabe der Werke des hl. Ephraim von Edessa; Rom 1732–1746. – Calendaria ecclesiae universae; Romae 1755. – Italic. historiae scriptores ex biblioth. Vaticana; Romae 1751–53. – Bibliothecae apost. vatic. codd. mscr. Catalogus, Romae 1756. – Jos. A., Bruder des vorigen, starb als Professor der syrisch. Sprache zu Rom 1782. Werke: Codex liturgicus ecclesiae, Romae 1749–1766. – Dissertatio de sacris ritibus; 1757. Commentaria de ecclesiis, earum reverentia et asylo, 1766. – Commentaria de Catholicis, seu Patriarchis Chaldaeorum et Nestorianorum. 1755. – Steph. Evodius A., Neffe des vorigen, Nachfolger Simon Jos. als Custos der vaticanisch. Bibliothek, unterstützte seinen Oheim in der Herausgabe des St. Ephraim und des Catalogus bibl. vat., gab heraus: Bibl. Mediceo-Laurent. et Palatinae codd. msc. orientalium catal., Florent. 1752. – Acta sanctorum Martyrum orientalium, ubi etiam acta Simonis Stylitae ex bibl. apost. vat. in lucem protaxit, chaldaicum text. recensuit etc. Romae 1748. – Simon A., geb. 1749 zu Tripolis in Syrien, im Maronitenkollegium zu Rom gebildet, dann 12 Jahre Missionär in seinem Vaterland, zuletzt Professor der orient. Sprachen am Seminar zu Padua, gest. 1821; sein bedeutendstes Werk: Ueber den Ursprung, die Civilisation, Literatur und Sitten der Araber, 1787.
