Billington (Billingtʼn), Elisabeth, Tochter eines deutschen Musikers, wurde 1770 zu London geboren, gab 7jährig Klavierconzerte u. 11jährig solche eigener Composition. Klavierlehrer B. entführte sie nach Dublin. hier und in Paris bildete sie sich zur Sängerin aus u. wurde in London am Coventgardentheater mit dem damals noch ungeheuern Gehalt von 1000 Pfd. nebst einer Benefizvorstellung angestellt. 1793 Triumphe in Italien, bald zweite Heirath, 1798 Herausgabe ihrer Memoiren. 1801 stand sie in London besonders als Mandane auf dem Gipfel ihrer Kunst und übertraf die Catalani und Mara an musikalischer Kenntniß und Fertigkeit; 1809 zog sie sich von der Bühne zurück, verließ 1817 London und st. 1818 auf einer Villa bei Venedig. Ihren ausschweifenden Neigungen zu Liebe soll sie ihren ersten Mann vergiftet und bewirkt haben. daß ihr zweiter durch die Fremdenbill aus England verwiesen wurde.
