Biot, Johann Baptiste. berühmter Physiker und Astronom. geb. 1774 zu Paris, studierte daselbst, ward später Professor in Beauvais, 1800 am Collège de France zu Paris, ging mit Arago nach Spanien zu Messung eines Meridianbogens und 1817 zu astronom. Beobachtungen nach den Orkaden. Schrieb unter anderm: »Traité analytique des courbes et des surfaces du second dégré« 1802, deutsch von Ahrens; »Traité de physique expérimentale et mathématique« 4 Bde. 1816, deutsch von Wolf; »Traité élémentaire dʼastronomie physique« 2 Bde. 1805.
