Cabinet

Cabinet (vom mittellat. Cabinetum, Diminutiv von cavum), eigentlich ein kleines Gemach im Innern eines Gebäudes, abgeschlossen, Arbeitszimmer des Fürsten und seiner Vertrauten oder zur Aufbewahrung sehr werthvoller Gegenstände. Daher heißt die Regierung selbst wohl auch C.; Cabinetsministerium in England der engere Ausschuß des Ministeriums; Cabinetsschreiben ist das Schreiben des Monarchen ohne Unterzeichnung von einem Minister, Cabinetsbefehl, Cabinetsordre, unmittelbarer Befehl des Fürsten. Von der 2. Bedeutung des Worts C. heißen Sammlungen von Münzen, Gemälden, Naturalien etc. Münz-, Gemälde- etc. Cabinete, auch die dazu bestimmten Gebäude; deßwegen ausgezeichnete Natur- u. Kunstproducte Cabinetsstücke und ein ausgezeichneter Maler Cabinetsmaler.
