Commodian ein christlicher Schriftsteller, dessen harte Schreibart auf Afrika, dessen Beiname Gazäus auf Palästina als Heimath hinweist, schrieb wahrscheinlich 267–270 seine instructiones adversus gentium deos, um Juden und Heiden zu bekehren. Von dem Jesuiten I. Sirmond wieder aufgefunden, wurden sie 1650 von Rigaltius, 1705 zu Wittenberg von Dodwell 1711 zu Cambridge von Davisius herausgegeben. Er hat Irrthümer, namentlich chiliastische, aber er war ein bekehrter Heide, wie er selbst erzählt und arm, so daß er sich des Herrn Christi Bettler nannte; seine angeblichen Hexameter gehören der gebundenen Rede nur an, insofern jeder für sich einen Sinn gibt.
