Narcissus myth., des Cephissus und der Nymphe Liriope Sohn, sah sich in der nach ihm benannten Quelle bei Thespiä u. der schöne Jüngling verliebte sich in sich selbst; er verzehrte sich in seiner unerwiederten Leidenschaft, so daß ihn die Götter in die Blume N. verwandelten. – N., Freigelassener u. Günstling des Kaisers Claudius, stürzte mit Pallas die Kaiserin Messalina u. wurde nach Claudius Vergiftung auf Befehl der Agrippina getödtet.
