Christen, wurden die Anhänger Christi zuerst in Antiochien am Orontes genannt, wo sich um 40 n. Chr. die erste heidenchristliche Gemeinde bildete; das Wort »Christiani« ist latein. Bildung, was beweist, daß die Römer den Namen »Christus« für einen Eigennamen hielten und dessen Bedeutung als »Gesalbter des Herrn« nicht kannten.
